At the age of 40 I couldn’t believe how much I had aged.
I could barely squat to the floor to pick up a dropped tissue.
My first attempts to get back into exercise were really tough.
My early attempts at group cardio training I really struggled.
I was always at the back of the pack puffing and panting and feeling like I couldn’t go a step further. The fittest members were finishing their round as I started out on my final lap gasping for breath.
- How did I get this unfit?
- Why had I let myself go for so long?
- Why hadn’t I seen this coming earlier and done something about it?
I was kicking myself.
But I knew the excuses stopped here and that I just had to show up and keep fighting forwards.
It was tough for sure.
But I knew it was harder to continue down the slippery slope into greater and greater unhealth.
I was scared.
I knew I was playing Russian roulette with my health, that if I didn’t do something to change, I was putting my hand up for something worse to happen and to potentially leave my kids without a mum.
One foot in front of the other, never giving up I fought my way back to getting in the best shape of my life.
Yes it was hard, but it was a lot harder coming up with excuses for not doing the work that had to be done and for not living the life that I really wanted.
It’s never too late, unless you never get started.

Help! I can’t commit to exercise everyday – will I fail?
When it comes to exercise and food we’ve grown up with the idea that to achieve the body we want, we need to do MORE exercise and eat LESS food. In fact, when most people begin an exercise regime they are told to do half an hour a day and then as that becomes easier...
